(Life Shifts Created From Coaching Questions)
by Edward Hammett
Select a few chapters and a few coaching questions that had the most impact on you while reading and frame some statements of commitment and accountability so that the taste of EPIC decisions you made will live beyond the reading of this book. Who can help you live into your passions?
Frames for Living into Your Decisions and Dreams
- I will engage in life giving, dream nurturing relationships on a weekly basis. What shifts are you willing to make now?
- I will remove myself from those relationships that drain me of my dreams and distract me from my mission. Who are the people?
- I will follow my dream to __________________ by ___________ (fill in the blanks for your dream and strategy)
- I will work to learn from the distasteful seeds in my life and move toward my passion with more intentionality. What are the shifts being called for and the lessons being learned?
- I will live more by heart than head directives regaining balance
- I will design a ‘well ministry’ to move my calling and dreams forward. What will it look like?
- I will commit to learning the language of persons God has planted me around so that I might communicate in ways they can understand and embrace

Now go back and prioritize and FOCUS on one or two at a time. What will move you forward NOW? WHO can help? WHAT barriers might you have to overcome to achieve your dreams? WHAT can help you move through the barriers? How will you practice EPIC principles today?

(Topping Off a Great EPIC in my Life)
by Edward Hammett
- Soul care can occur in coffee shop reflections
- Starbuck creates business around EPIC experiences that can fuel soul care and spiritual formation with a reflective patron
- Life lessons come through life experiences. Living and learning through life experiences can fashion faith and community
- Pausing with coffee in hand and community around is the hunger of busy people – coffee shops often offer more ‘sanctuary’ and ‘pause’ than the busyness we find in many churches’
- Living into life challenges is a task the ‘third place’ encourages and nurtures
- Placing an order for ‘coffee’ (life’s preferences) is not enough
- Leaning into the starbuck (EPIC) experience brings faith and fulfillment
- Participating in life and spiritual formation is essential to capture all life has to offer. Sitting on the sidelines sabotages fulfillment in life
- Restoration, healing and hope are found in an encounter with God, with others and with ourselves
- Learning to create and enter bonding, rather than binding relationships opens life’s options, freedom and next steps
- The church has much to learn about EPIC from Starbucks
- Moving from where we are to where we want to be is nurtured b y powerful questions, intentional reflection time, healthy community and a good coach
Who am I? To answer this, we must first learn to become more aware of ourselves. To be aware, we must STOP and PAY ATTENTION! We need to STOP and objectively watch ourselves in action.
We live most of our lives by habit. These habits keep us stuck in patterns that limit our experience of life. Once we detect a pattern we were previously unconscious of, we can choose differently, if we want. With awareness comes choice and with choice, we gain freedom.
